Here’s how you get backlinks to your website:

  • Publish high-quality content. When you write helpful and well-researched articles, people will naturally want to link to them. Focus on topics readers often search for, and make sure your writing is clear and easy to follow.
  • Write guest posts. Offer to create articles for blogs in your industry. In return, you can typically include a link back to your own site in the articles you create. Check the blogs’ guidelines before submitting so your posts meet their requirements.
  • Look for broken links. Look for pages on relevant websites that no longer exist. Contact the site owner and suggest your content as a replacement. This helps them fix a broken link and helps you earn a backlink. Learn more about broken link building.
  • Reach out to influencers. Mention industry experts in your own content, then let them know about it. Engage with them on social media by commenting on their posts or sharing their work. If they find your content useful, they may share it or link to it.
  • Promote your content. Post your articles on social media, email them to your network, and share them in relevant online communities. The more people see your work, the more likely you are to receive links.
  • Publish unique data or research. Create surveys or studies that offer new information others cannot easily find. People—especially journalists—often link back to original data or research when they cite facts and statistics.
  • Design shareable visuals. Turn your key points into compelling infographics or charts. Provide these visuals to other sites with a simple request for a link to the original source on your site.
  • Find and fix unlinked brand mentions. Search the web for places where your brand is mentioned but not linked. Politely ask those sites to add a link to help readers find the source of the information.

All of these methods are legitimate when done correctly and should not result in penalties.

Building backlinks takes time. You won’t see big results overnight, but consistent efforts pay off. Avoid spammy tactics like buying links or overloading comment sections. These types of manipulative efforts can backfire and hurt your site’s reputation and SEO.

Focus on creating genuinely helpful content and building real relationships in your industry. Over time, people will naturally link to resources they find useful.
